OPN GAZA — A CALL FOR HUMANITY IN THE FACE OF GAZA TRAGEDY: In the heart-wrenching conflict in the Gaza Strip, the toll on innocent lives, especially women and children, demands urgent global reflection. The reported casualties underscore a precarious compromise of the fundamental principles of distinction and proportionality. The announced truce offers a glimmer of hope, with a deal to release hostages and additional aid entering Gaza—a commendable step forward. However, the crucial need remains to extend the truce, allowing essential humanitarian relief to reach those in desperate need. The Security Council must heed the UAE Ambassador to the UN Lana Nusseibeh's recent call to break free from paralysis, ensuring humanitarian access to Gaza. As the world grapples with this complex conflict, every child saved is a testament to the significance of the truce, emphasising the pressing need for a definitive end to the crisis. HATTA HYDROELECTRIC — A LEAP TOWARD SUSTAINABLE LEADERSHIP: Dubai's groundbreaking hydroelectric power station in Hatta is a testament to the emirate’s unwavering commitment to green energy initiatives. The project is set to revolutionise the Middle East's energy landscape. This hydroelectric plant ingeniously harnesses clean energy during off-peak hours, boasting an impressive 78.9 per cent efficiency in power generation and storage. It highlights Dubai's dedication to transforming innovative ideas into reality. Once operational in 2025, the plant will produce 250 MW and store 1,500 MWh, contributing significantly to Net Zero Strategy 2050.
