Dubai: The UAE took the celebrations of Saudi Arabia’s National Day one step further by playing the neighbouring country’s national anthem in schools.

On Sunday, social networking sites were abuzz as the morning assembly in Abu Dhabi’s schools played the Saudi anthem Sari’i to mark the 88th National Day, which falls on September 23.

The Abu Dhabi Education and Knowledge Department announced that “schools in the emirate of Abu Dhabi will organise activities and recreational events on the occasion of Saudi National Day”. 

The events were carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Education. 

During the day, the Arabic hashtag #Always_Together and #KSA_88_National_Day were trending on social media as UAE and Saudi residents posted videos and photos of the celebration in schools.

Twitter user Ali Al Maliki also posted a video, with the caption: “This is how Emirati schools celebrated Saudi Arabia’s National Day.”
