Dubai: UAE’s military contingent will participate in the Pakistan National Day parade to be held in Islamabad on March 23, confirmed a top diplomat.

“This will be the first time that a contingent from the UAE military will parade along with Pakistan armed forces at the official ceremony in Islamabad to mark the 78th National Day of Pakistan,” Ambassador of Pakistan Moazzam Ahmed Khan told Gulf News on Monday.

He said that participation of the UAE military contingent in the National Day celebrations is a great gesture and honour for Pakistan.

A spokesperson of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) also confirmed that UAE military contingent would parade along with their band at the official ceremony in the capital.

Pakistan Day is celebrated to mark the Lahore Resolution on March 23 each year. The Lahore Resolution, which is also called Pakistan Resolution, passed on March 23, 1940, is considered a major milestone in the Muslim struggle for an independent Muslim state which was later called Pakistan

Elaborate arrangements have also been made by the Pakistan embassy and the community organisations in the UAE to celebrate their country’s National Day. An official diplomatic reception by the embassy will be held in Abu Dhabi on March 21 and a similar event will be held by the Pakistan Consulate General in Dubai on March 26. Flag hoisting ceremonies will be held at the missions at 8.30am on March 23.

Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) will organise a four-day festival ‘Shukriya Pakistan (Thank you Pakistan) at its premises in Dubai.

The festival will kick off on March 22 and will be held from 4pm to 11pm. The highlight of the festival is the Urdu stage play ‘Mian, Biwi Aur Wagah’ to be performed at Pakistan Auditorium on March 22 and 23.

Director PR and Media Relations at PAD Rizwan Fancy said: “The festival’s activities will include a stage play, performance by comedians and singers, food stalls, games and prizes for children.”

“The purpose of bringing so much colour and festivity on one platform is to engage our community and give them a feeling of home away from home,” said Fancy.

Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah and Pakistan Centre in Ras Al Khaimah have also arranged similar community events on March 23.
