Dubai: For stranded Indian jobseeker Ashif Mohammad, loss of his bag containing valuables earlier this month has come as a blessing in disguise.

Mohammad, who landed in Dubai on April 19 in search of a job, lost his bag during a bus trip to Ras Al Khaimah on June 1.

Running from the pillar to post in an attempt to recover his backpack that contained his passport, educational certificates, cash as well as a laptop, Mohammad had lost all hope of either finding a job or his belongings.

Though, he is yet to find his bag, a Gulf News report on the 28-year-old’s ordeal has landed him a job with a leading Dubai firm.

“I am overwhelmed by the support I have received since the Gulf News report was published. All I was hoping for was to get some direction in search of my bag which had all my documents and valuables, but when I got a call from Danube Properties, I couldn’t believe my ears,” said Mohammad, who got an offer to work as a document controller.

The commerce graduate, who earlier worked with an event management firm in his native state of Kerala, said that he couldn’t believe his luck when he received the offer letter.

“I received a lot of calls from different people and companies after the Gulf News report, but nothing materialised. So when I got the call from Danube, I thought it is one of those calls, but when I actually went to their office and met Mr Atif Rahman, I realised this was not a dream. I am really glad to have gotten this chance to work with such a reputed firm,” added Mohammad, who is now waiting for his temporary passport and an outpass to exit the country before returning on the employment visa.

Mohammad, whose visit visa expires on July 19, is hoping to receive his temporary passport in a few days.

“Once I get my temporary travel document, I will travel back to India and apply for a passport, which I hope to receive in two weeks. Once that happens I can come back and take up my new job,” said Mohammad.

Mohammad’s job offer came from Rahman, partner and director of Danube Properties, after the Gulf News report caught his attention.

Rahman said that he was moved by the plight of Mohammad and decided to help the young man realise his dream.

“After reading about Ashif Mohammad in Gulf News, I was moved and could not help but ask our HR manager to invite him for a job interview. It was a few days after the holy month of Ramadan — the month of caring and sharing — and Eid Holidays and I felt, what is our worth if we can’t support a young man trying to realise his dream,” said Rahman.
