Dubai- Around 30 people of determination with intellectual disabilities are participating in the summer camp at Dubai Sports World launched on June 25 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The Local Organising Committee of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 has invited people with intellectual disabilities from SEDRA, Al Noor and Manzil centres to take part and be introduced to the Unified Special Olympics Sports Programme.
The six-week-long summer camp has been organised with the support of Dubai Sports Council, Dubai World Trade Centre and official Special Olympics World Games 2019 partner Emaar Properties.
“With next year’s Special Olympics World Games taking place in Abu Dhabi, this is one of the many events and initiatives that will be organised to help engage with the wider community of people with intellectual disabilities across the UAE to encourage the movement to live in a more unified and inclusive society in the UAE and abroad,” said Mohamad Al Ansari, Senior Director of International Relations at the Local Organising Committee of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.
The summer training camp allows participants to attend weekly training sessions in football, basketball and cycling, with the help of qualified trained coaches from Just Play and GoldsGym. The camp will conclude with a unified sports tournament, to test the learning of the participants.
