Dubai: Nouf Marwaai, Saudi Arabia’s first certified yoga instructor who India honoured with a Padma Shri award, will lead Dubai’s International Yoga Day celebrations this year.

Marwaai, the founder of Arab Yoga Foundation, will be the chief guest at the main event held to mark 4th International Yoga Day on June 21, it was announced on Tuesday.

She will lead thousands of yoga enthusiasts performing yoga to mark the day at Dubai’s Zabeel Park, said Consul-General of India in Dubai Vipul.

He said Marwaai will demonstrate the common yoga protocol on stage. The common yoga protocol involves various asanas popularised on social media this year by the Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) of India.

Addressing a press conference to announce the details of this year’s Yoga Day, which is propagated across the world by India, Vipul said elaborate plans have been made to mark the day across the emirates.

“We are marking the Yoga Day in Dubai and other five Northern Emirates under the consulate on June 20, 21 and 22. As in the past years, we hope a great number of people will join us,” he said.

The Yoga Day events will start with a function at Al Arabi Sports Club in Umm Al Quwain on Wednesday.

The official event will take place at Zabeel Park on June 21, the International Yoga Day.

Yoga enthusiasts from various yoga schools like Art of Living, Sahaj Yoga, Raja Yoga Centre, Heartfulness Yoga, Sky Yoga and Laughter Yoga will participate along with general public interested in the event.

Gates will be open at 6pm and the event will end by 9.30pm.

On June 22, thousands of yoga enthusiasts will take part in the event to be organised at Expo Centre Sharjah. On the same day, several others will take part in the yoga events at Ajman Indian Association, American University in Ras Al Khaimah and Indian Social Club in Fujairah.
