Dubai: Emiratis holding wedding events will now be provided with complimentary directional signs to be put up to guide invitees to the location of the wedding, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced.

Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA in Dubai, said the service would be provided free of charge for wedding events of Emiratis starting from September this year.

During the announcement, Al Tayer also honoured the team who proposed the idea of having signs to guide invitees to social events held at homes or tents, which was widely welcomed by community members.

He commended RTA’s team and clients who supported the suggestion, which will maintain the urban outlook of Dubai and rid the city of the rampant carton signs placed on Dubai roads for guiding to sites of condolence and other events.

“The RTA is keen on diversifying communication channels with individuals and staff contributing with their suggestions to RTA, in a bid to engage them in the decision-making process. The aim is to enable them to make suggestions that may improve the business process, boost customers’ confidence and achieve excellence in service delivery, which will contribute to realising RTA’s vision, mission and objectives,” said Al Tayer.

Citizens honoured included Jasem Ahli, Laila Ahmad Abdullah Eisa, Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Ali, Hassan Ahmad Baqer, Mohammad Abdul Karim Bu Khashm, Abdul Razzaq Ali Ebrahim and Majid Abdullah Abdul Rahman. Honourees also included the RTA team which had developed the concept.

The RTA’s directional signage service can be requested for by visiting affiliated customer service centres, or contacting the Call Centre (8009090) 24/7 to supply the required information/documents. The RTA provides 10 signs per request to cover a wide geographical area leading to the wedding or condolence location.
