Dubai:  An insurance company worker just got the dream of a lifetime come true -- a $1 million (Dh3.6 million) cash prize. And he got it without so much of a sweat.

Sourav Dey, a 45-year-old Indian national based in Dubai, was declared the latest winner of the $1 million jackpot in Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw on Tuesday.

He bagged the most-coveted prize after buying the lottery ticket for the first time. He now joins the growing list of expatriates who have turned themselves into millionaires overnight by participating in games of chance.

Dey works as a department head for an insurance company. He has been living in Dubai for six years now. When he was informed about his fortune, he couldn’t contain his excitement, especially since he had never participated in the draw before.

“I’m so grateful to Dubai Duty Free for giving me this new fortune that my family will truly treasure for a long time,” Dy said.

Unlike many other lottery draw winners who have scooped up millions of dirhams, Dy will be taking all the money to himself since he bought the ticket alone.

Two other lottery participants will be driving home luxury vehicles after winning the Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise draw.

Sajeewa Niranjan, a 40-year-old Sri Lankan national based in Dubai just won a range Rover HSE 380HP with his ticket number 0615. Niranjan is also a first-time ticket buyer.

The second winner, Babu Ajith Babu from India, will be driving home a BMW R 1200 RT motorbike.
