Dubai: Filipino expatriates in the UAE are marking Philippine Independence Day one month in advance with celebrations in Umm Al Quwain on Friday. 

Organisers said this is the first time that independence day celebrations are going to be held in the emirate. In the Philippines, the 120th independence day celebrations is going to be held on June 12.

More than 40 groups are expected to participate in activities from 2pm to 10pm at China Mall.

Visitors can expect singing and art competitions, a parade of models in traditional costumes, modern and folk dance presentations and medical missions.

The longest boodle fight - a Filipino culinary experience popularised by the military - is also expected to be spread for visitors.
