Dubai: To commemorate the Year of Zayed, and in line with the spirit of giving during Ramadan, an Emirati businessman has donated Dh100,000 to free prisoners in Dubai.

The Year of Zayed was issued under the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to mark 100 years since the birth of the late founding father Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

This is the second time this year that a philanthropist donated money to free prisoners who were unable to pay off their debts.

On its Facebook page, Dubai Police received Yaquob Al Ali who pledge Dh100,000 to help release prisoners.

Brigadier Mohammad Abdullah Al Murr, Director of Human Rights at Dubai Police, commended the grand gesture, and said the donation will also be used to purchase air tickets for prisoners who were unable to travel back home after they completed their jail term.

Brig Al Murr expressed hope that this initiative will be an inspiration for other organizations and individuals to be part of the UAE's humanitarian efforts.
