Dubai: A Dubai-based Indian teenager, Amiteash Paul, has won the NRI of the Year Award 2018.
The 15-year-old student of The Indian High School, Dubai, won the top prize in Academics category at the fifth season of the annual award.
A Grade 11 student, Paul was born and raised in Dubai. The NRI of the Year Award recognised Paul’s efforts towards educating the community about recycling and segregation of waste and working towards building a zero waste sustainable society by 2030.
He has educated and helped in establishing colour-coded waste segregation recycling bins in labour housing clusters, factories and offices in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman and is a Brand Ambassador of Bond Interiors LLC.
Paul is a volunteer with different organisations like the Community Development Authority of Dubai (Honour Labour initiative), India Club and Protect Your Mom Asia.
He is also passionate about integrating the people of determination into mainstream society and has been volunteering with the Manzil Foundation (part of the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services), the RKM Blind Boys’ Academy, Narendrapur, West Bengal, as well as spending time with the hearing-impaired students of Deaf School in India
Held in Mumbai last month, the event was attended by several political leaders, sports personalities and Bollywood celebrities, including Kiren Rijiju, Indian Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sunil Chhetri, captain of the Indian national football team, as well as actresses Chitrangada Singh and Mandira Bedi.
The award ceremony was telecast on Times Now Channel on Saturday at 6pm UAE time and will be repeated on Sunday at 3pm.
