Dubai: Dubai Police have warned residents against performing what is called the Kiki dance challenge because it can endanger road users.
The dance includes stepping out of a moving vehicle and dancing beside it, Dubai Police said.
Just a few weeks ago, 31-year-old Canadian rapper, Drake, ignited a viral trend with his new song titled ‘In My Feelings’, which inspired comedian Lil Shuzi of ‘The Shiggy Show’ to use the song’s lyrics ‘Kiki, do you love me?’, and its catchy beat to launch a dance challenge choreographed to the song.
With the growing popularity of the video, celebrities and fans have been creating their own versions of the song, posting short clips of themselves performing the trending dance on social media.
Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, deputy chairman of police and public security in Dubai, criticised the challenge in a tweet after questions were put to him about punishments for those attempting the Kiki challenge.
Police said people who perform the Kiki challenge are committing serious traffic violations like driving a vehicle in a dangerous manner, blocking traffic and using a mobile phone while driving.
According to the Federal Traffic Law, dangerous driving involves Dh2,000 and 23 black points as well as impounding of the vehicle for 60 days for driving a vehicle in a way that endanger the lives of other road users.
Dubai Police said that they are working to reduce the death rate on roads and that they encourage youngsters to engage in useful and positive hobbies.
