Dubai employees work average of 42.4 hours per week

Dubai: Forget about the year-round sun and the pampered lifestyle; now there’s another reason to love working in Dubai.

A global report has recently found that employees working in the emirate have it best when it comes to balancing their personal life and work.

The latest UBS Annual Prices and Earnings Study 2015 has found that, “the average number of hours worked in Dubai reached 42.4 hours per week, at a rate of 2,035.2 hours of work per year,” which is the best ratio out of 71 global cities – given that the average holiday is up to 30 days per year.

If you are uncertain about the UAE’s working hours, it is clearly defined by the Ministry of Labour, Article 65, which states that: “The maximum number of ordinary working hours for adult workers shall be eight hours per day, or forty eight hours per week.

“The number of hours may be increased to nine hours per day for people employed in trade, hotels, cafeterias, security and other jobs whose addition may be made by virtue of a decision from the Minister of Labour.”

The report also addressed the number of working hours in New Delhi, India, which reached 42.6 hours per week. The city of Mumbai recorded an average of 43.8 hours of work per week, while employees worked an average of 2,276.6 hour per year.

Hong Kong topped the list for working the most hours per week, at 50.1.

In Egypt, residents worked an average of 40.3 hours per week in the capital city of Cairo, which according to the report, was similar to the working hours of Bogota, Colombia.

The global report further said that in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, people surveyed said they worked an average of 40.3 hours a week, with only 12 holidays per a year.
