The first-ever Saudi Design Festival opened in Riyadh yesterday. The festival is being held in the Jax district of Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, and will offer a platform for up and coming talent to demonstrate their creativity and enable them to navigate the course of their career. The event will run until January 29.

Saudi Design Festival is the first of its kind in the region and is presented by the Architecture and Design Commission. The aim is to transform Riyadh into a hub for creative dialogue and will focus on “the power of transformation in and by design”.

The festival will feature exhibitions as well as workshops to stimulate the creativity of young talent by providing them a platform that’s unlike any other in the Middle East. According to the official website, the Saudi Design Festival “will bring communities together to celebrate great design, reimagine the future, connect, and create our presence on the global culture and creative map”.

There was also a poster competition dubbed Ode to Riyadh: A love letter to the city -- the challenge invited up and comers to express their love for the city through their creativity.

Ambassadors of the festival include creatives and artists such as Norah Aleisa, Mohammed Kazim and Luluah Al Homoud.

While the inaugural day was January 9 and open to invitees only, January 10 witnessed the Saudi Design Festival open its doors to the general public. The event is open from 17:00 to 22:00 every Sunday until Thursday, and 12:00 to 22:00 every Friday and Saturday.
