Dubai: The Ruler of Dubai applauded an immigration officer for his noble act, and promoted Salem Abdullah Bin Nabhan Al Badwawi for assisting a Syrian family stranded on the Hatta check-point.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, promoted Al Badwawi to the rank of First Officer, and said that the officer’s generosity was a true reflection of Emirati values.
On his official twitter account, Shaikh Mohammad posted a video of a radio presenter talking with the Syrian father about the incident, and accompanied it with the caption: “Salem Al Badwawi, a government employee… a UAE citizen. A man who reflects the values of Emirati culture.”

On air, the Syrian man explained how his car broke down on the first day of Eid Al Fitr, while he was driving his family to Muscat.
"It was Friday morning at 7am and we were going to Muscat, and our car had broked down at the border. The customs officer tried to help us get a tow truck or a taxi so we could go back home, but nobody responded as it was the first day of Eid and still early in the morning."
The radio caller pointed out that Al Badwawi, the customs officer on duty, then offered his car keys so that the family could continue their trip to Oman.
"He first drove us to his home in Hatta, dropped his belongings off, and then insisted we continue our journey as planned.
"After we finished, the officer took us back to our home in Dubai, and called for a mechanic to fix the broken-down car.”
Dubai Media office also announced the news of the officer’s promotion, and said that Shaikh Mohammad, “ordered the promotion of Al Badwawi, the passport officer at the Hatta border crossing of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, to the rank of First Officer starting from June16, as an appreciation for the way he dealt with travellers passing through the check-point.”
