Abu Dhabi: Ahmad Abdullah Majan, a UAE inventor, achieved great success at the International Invention Innovation Competition, ICAN 2016, in Toronto, Canada, on Saturday.

The EDISON UAE team member secured a total of five medals for his five inventions, three gold and two silver, the best inventor from the Middle East trophy and an award for best invention.

Majan dedicated his outstanding achievements to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and to the UAE government and people given their benevolent support for creativity, innovation and academic advancement.

In what was his seventh participation at the event, Majan’s three gold medals were for his inventions of ‘Smart Sport Helmet’, ‘Smart Saddle’ and ‘Solar-Powered Animal Tracking System’.

His two silver medals were awarded for his ‘Solar-Powered Bicycle Tracking System’ and ‘Smart Elderly Crutch’, which has been patented in Brazil.

The ‘Smart Sport Helmet’ is designed using a smart application connected to the helmet to provide cyclists, athletes and desert bikers with necessary protection. It also features a system where an injured cyclist or biker can call for help and can be located via a navigation system that is solar-powered.

The ‘Smart Saddle’ has a heart pulse device for horses, a device for weighing horses and a compass and camera to indicate the direction and movement of the horse. In addition, there is a cooling system to maintain the horse’s body temperature and a light signal system capable of working in the dark, all of which are solar-powered.

The ‘Smart Elderly Crutch’ assists the elderly in alerting their families or an ambulance in case of emergency through the device installed in the crutch that is enabled with a solar-powered tracking system, a voice alarm and a reporting system. The device sends out a message to the ambulance and others whose contact details have been saved, asking for help.

The ‘Smart Sport Helmet’ won best Middle East Invention.
