The many faces of Sharjah Industrial Area

Gulf News reader Aleena M. Saju went on a photo walk with a group of 50 amateur photographers to capture the different faces of the Sharjah Industrial Area. Some photographers used their lens to capture the different kinds of industries in the area, while others focused on the daily chores of migrant workers.

According to the website Data Dubai there are a total of 3,638 companies operating in the Sharjah Industrial Area. The UAE being home to more than 200 nationalities, most companies in the country employee workers of various nationalities.

The 2010 report by the Emirates Centre for Human Rights (ECHR) states that migrant workers make up a staggering 90 per cent of the labour force. The working population consists of 1.75 million Indians, 1.25 million Pakistanis, 500,000 Bangladeshis; 1 million other Asians and 500,000 Europeans and Africans.
