Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has unveiled a line-up of Ramadan events, as part of its support to the Year of Zayed.

Among them is the Meals-on-Wheels event, which will be held for the eighth consecutive year.

“Five buses will be allocated to distribute 5,000 meals at bus stations, metro stations, and workers accommodations in collaboration with volunteers,” said Moaza Al Marri, Director of RTA’s Marketing and Corporate Communication.

Another event titled ‘Ramadan Aman’ will be relaunched under the theme: ‘Together for an accident-free Ramadan’ in coordination with Al Ihsan Charity Association. A team of RTA volunteers, comprising directors and other staff members, will distribute iftar meals to motorists at traffic signals during call for Maghrib prayers so they can end their fast there instead of rushing home.

The RTA will also support the Dubai International Holy Quran Award by deploying VIP buses to transport contestants, judges, lecturers and guests from their residence to competition venue, said Al Marri.

The RTA will also take part in distributing Ramadan Meer (ration) to 400 underprivileged families and senior citizens in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman in coordination with the Union Cooperative Society. Another event named ‘Ramadan with Thukhor’ will be held where iftar meals will be served to senior citizens affiliated to Thukhor Social Club.

“RTA Women Committee will launch ‘Farhat Eid’ (Eid Joy) initiative in cooperation with Rawafed Development Centre and the Emirates Red Crescent Authority. Under this initiative, members of the committee will escort 50 orphan children from families with fixed income to major shopping centres to buy their Eid clothing, cheer them up and engage them in the joyful atmosphere,” said Al Marri.

She said as part of the RTA’s strategy to bring happiness to its employees, iftar meals will be served to employees of the call centre and security and maintenance personnel.

A traffic awareness campaign will also be launched during Ramadan and gifts will be given to 1,000 truck drivers at Emirates Driving Institute and the Dubai Driving Centre.
