Abu Dhabi: Residents with car shelters erected outside the boundaries of their residential plots must renew their permits, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality has said in a statement on Monday.

In cases where the permits are not renewed, the Municipality will serve notices calling for the removal of the shelters within a months’ time.

The statement also called upon residents to ensure that the shelters meet required standards, including being light and strong enough to withstand weather conditions. They must also be cleaned regularly, and used only for parking cars.

The licence fee to erect a shelter is set at Dh2,000 per parking slot, and the annual renewal fee is Dh500 per slot. Unlicensed shelters will, on the other hand, invite fines up to Dh50,000.
