Ras Al Khaimah: A fire broke out at a chemical warehouse in Ras Al Khaimah early on Friday morning, causing extensive damage to the warehouse but there were no reports of any casualties, according to Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence.

The Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence, in coordination with civil defence centres in Sharjah, Fujairah and Ajman, managed to bring the blaze under control within two hours of it being reported, an official said.

The gutted warehouse is located in the industrial area in Al Ghail and was used to store chemical materials used to manufacture foam.

A rescue team evacuated the factory and nearby buildings to ensure people’s safety, an official said.

Police patrols cordoned off the area and closed roads leading to the factory.

The site has been secured by Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence as the foam is flammable and fire could spread again. “We will be on the site till tomorrow to make sure the fire does not spread again,” an official said.

Forensic experts were to visit the site to determine the cause of the fire.
