Abu Dhabi: More than 6,000 nominations have been made for the Abu Dhabi Awards since the start of the campaign two weeks ago, but organisers are urging residents to make even more recommendations for the prestigious prize.

The 6,000 nominations mark more than double the average number made in past editions of the award, which represents the highest civilian recognition in Abu Dhabi emirate.

Nominations for the eighth edition of the prize can be made online at www.abudhabiawards.ae, or through dedicated booths at shopping malls. Residents can also fill forms an drop them in one of 90 nomination drop boxes throughout the emirate.

“The first two weeks of the Abu Dhabi Awards campaign have been really positive,” said Sara Al Mansour, a member of the organising committee.

“People are coming forward to share with us stories of individuals who they feel deserve to win for making positive contributions to Abu Dhabi society,” she added.

Organisers added that everyone is eligible to nominate, or be nominated, and multiple nominations can be made for one person. However, a single nomination is enough for someone to be considered for the prizes, which are decided based on merit.

The nomination period runs until Saturday, June 27, after which the entries will be evaluated by a select committee. Winners are expected to be announced at a ceremony in December.
