“What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”
Have you noticed the growing trend of fitness programs and people trying to squat their way towards a healthier lifestyle? Yes, it’s a trend and it’s good.
In the UAE most people live a sedentary lifestyle, and it’s because our weather is not encouraging for us to walk or cycle to work. It’s also because we are just lazy ‘coach potatoes’. I truly believe that the human body was created to exercise. It’s good that everyone wants to be on the health wagon and it’s easy to be on one. We have different fitness cults out there nowadays. Whether you are a crossfitter, bodybuilder or a marathon runner, join a cult and challenge yourself to a better lifestyle.
Everyone should be educated about fitness and yes, it is considered an education because it takes time and true knowledge and it’s a form of art and philosophy. When you comprehend this domain and conquer it, it will give you a sense of accomplishment. You will feel on top of the world because you truly exhausted yourself to the point of breakdown; and this will not kill you it will only make you stronger and that is the exact time where you will start to see results.
Within this education you must have a clear understanding of your nutrition intake. Try to keep it as fresh as it can be, because no matter how hard you bust yourself in sports, proper nutrition is the key. In order to do so, we need to stop counting the calories and pay attention to the quality of the food. It’s a simple formula of opting for quality over quantity. Counting and obsessing over calorie intake is artificial, and the body has a natural ability to tell when we’re hungry and when we’re full. With time it will come naturally and we will adapt to it, after all we are made to adapt and survive.
If you find it difficult to go to the gym and that is exactly what I face every day, then you should think smart and find something that you love. Fitness can be found everywhere, from indoor to outdoor and from land to water. It changes your life, makes you confident, and you just look and feel better.
I don’t claim to be a coach, nutritionist or a professional athlete (not yet). I am just like you taking every day as a step closer to my personal goals, challenging myself for a better life, but I truly believe: “Good things come to those who sweat.”
