Dubai: Thousands of Indian expats in the UAE began celebrating their country’s 69th Republic Day  of India this morning.

Indian missions in the UAE and The Indian High School in Dubai reverberated with Indian national anthem, patriotic songs, and slogans praising their motherland. 

Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul hoisted the tricolour flag at the Indian Consulate in Dubai and later at The Indian High School.

He also read our excerpts from the  Indian’s president’s address to the nation on the eve of the Republic Day. 

The president’s speech highlighted the importance of women empowerment and innovative education in modern India. 

The occasion marks the anniversary of the country’s constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950.

“If there is one place outside India where it should be most celebrated, it has to be in Dubai,” Vipul said, lauding the large and vibrant Indian community here. 

Famous Indian actress of yesteryears Vyajayanthimala was the guest of honour at the event which saw colourful cultural programmes showcasing the unity in diversity of India. 

Indians celebrate Republic Day in Abu Dhabi 

Hundreds of Indian community members gathered at the Indian Embassy premises in the capital Friday morning to celebrate the 69th Indian Republic Day. 

Navdeep Singh Suri, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, hoisted the National Flag and read out the Indian President’s address to the nation, which was delivered on the eve of the Republic Day.  

Extending the Republic Day wishes to the community, Suri said presence of a large number of workers at the ceremony made him happy. 

He said Indian workers’ welfare is a top priority of the embassy. “Our doors are always open to them.” 

He said the embassy was privileged to have the presence of top Emirati officials at a reception hosted by the embassy on Thursday evening as part of the Republic Day celebrations. Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, and several senior officials attended the event. 

The ambassador introduced senior officers of the embassy to the community. 

Schoolchildren sang patriotic songs and performed colourful cultural programmes at the embassy auditorium.
