Sharjah A young Pakistani woman who had an abnormal fear of the police since childhood overcome it after her father aired her problem on Ajman Radio [Al Rabia Radio] and the Ajman Police responded to his call.
The young woman’s fear had forced her to leave university in Pakistan and come to the UAE.
According to the father, his 21-year-old daughter, since the age of four, had exhibited an abnormal fear of law enforcement believing that she was wanted by the police.
Her father sought help from specialists in Pakistan who suggested that the girl visit a police station to overcome her fears.
The father then decided to seek help by contacting Ajman Radio.
Following the live radio programme, the broadcaster Abu Rashid contacted Major General Shaikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, who instructed his staff to follow up on the case.
Lieutenant Colonel Yahya Al Matroushi, Director of Al Hamidyah police station, said the young lady and her parents were invited to visit Al Hamidyah police station.
Lt.Col. Al Matroushi and his team welcomed the young woman and her parents and took them on a tour around the police station. The 21-year-old was briefed on police work and given access to her data on the computer to make her see that she was not wanted by the police.
By the end of the visit, she expressed deep happiness at having been given the oppurtunity to know the police at close quarters. She thanked the police for their cooperation. She was also presented with a gift to mark her visit to the police station.
Lt. Col. Al Matroushi called on the public to correct the image they build in children about the police that is based on fear.
Parents should instead, he said, reinforce the role police play in providing security and safety to the people.
