Six teams of government employees battled the ‘Storm’ to win the men’s and women’s competition in the first Government Games (Gov Games) yesterday at Kite Beach in Dubai, bagging the Dh1 million prize.

In the men’s contest, team F3, which included Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, as the participating member, won the championship.

In the women’s contest, the winner was the US Consulate General in Dubai team.

According to an announcement at the event, the women’s winning team from the US consulate has decided to donate the Dh1 million prize money to an Emirati charity, which was not specified.

Winning teams surpassed five other finalists in the final obstacle course, called the Storm, to win the Dh2 million championship, with the men’s and women’s team each winning Dh1 million.

The women’s finalists were Dubai Police, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Municipality, US Consulate General in Dubai, and Ministry of Education.

In the men’s contest, the finalists were Shaikh Hamdan — F3, Ministry of Interior, Sharjah Police, Fujairah Police, Ministry of Education and Abu Dhabi Airports.

The obstacle in yesterday’s finals involved climbing up a wall, flying down a zip-line — over fire at the start — and running 1km while carrying a log around the course.

The Gov Games is an initiative launched by Shaikh Hamdan.

The debut edition was launched to promote healthy living, teamwork and unity among government employees.
