Executive Council approves projects worth Dh17.5b

Move in line with vision of Khalifa to meet needs of Emiratis and provide them with a dignified life

Abu Dhabi: Service projects worth Dh17.5 billion were approved by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, in the emirate of Abu Dhabi during 2016.

The projects were approved during yesterday’s Abu Dhabi Executive Council meeting, chaired by Shaikh Mohammad.

The move comes in line with the vision of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to meet the needs of Emiratis and provide them with a dignified life.

An amount of Dh5.9 billion has been allocated for housing, Dh4.3 billion for infrastructure, Dh1.8 billion for education, Dh614 million for government facilities, and Dh644 million for social facilities, among other allocations for a number of vital sectors.

The implementation of these projects will help realise Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The projects approved included the Emirati District, which will be located in Madinat Zayed. The Dh2.4 billion district will house 37 mosques, 47 parks and 13 schools, and serve 370,000 Emiratis as part of a residential community extending over 4,500 hectares.

Other projects include the construction of a 50km double-carriage road from Madinat Zayed to Al Marfa city at a cost of Dh664 million.

The council reviewed progress of work on Maqta Gateway, which will interlink with all relevant parties to facilitate the flow of goods via Abu Dhabi’s ports.

The council also reviewed progress of work on Abu Dhabi-Dubai road, which stretches between Seeh Shuaib and Suweihan. The 62km four lane road will cost Dh2.1 billion.

The council also reviewed phases of completion on the Jabal Hafeet housing project in Al Ain. The project will comprise 3,000 housing units, eight mosques and a number of community and service facilities, and will be built over an area of 453.8 hectares.

They reviewed progress of work on Ain Al Fayda, which will include 2,000 residential units, schools, mosques, healthcare centres, nurseries, shops and gyms.

The Al Ain Ladies Club project, which is currently under construction over an area of 17,322 square metres and designed according to environment-friendly standards, was among the projects reviewed.

They reviewed the work mechanism for Al Maqta Hall, which provides logistic services regarding tenders for capital projects which are valued at more than Dh100 million.

The council also discussed developments on the construction of Shaikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi. The medical city will be extended over 245,000 square metres, with a capacity of 732 beds. It will also include emergency departments, intensive care units, medical research centres, in addition to parking that can accommodate 1,350 cars.
