Dubai: Condolences poured in for cycling champion Rashid Mohammad Abdullah Al Ghurair, who died in a traffic accident on Wednesday.

His Highness Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman and His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, on Thursday offered condolences on the death of Al Ghurair and visited the mourning majlis at Abu Hail in Dubai.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, also offered condolences by visiting the mourning tent. He met family members of the deceased, praying to Allah to rest his soul in paradise and grant his family solace and patience.

Al Ghurair was laid to rest at Al Qusais cemetery on Thursday, during Dhuhr prayers.

Condolences poured in on social media from across the country, as the Emiratis mourned the loss of the young man, whose wedding was set to take place next week on November 26.

Al Ghurair was an active sportsman and cycling champion who participated in a number of events and championships, such as the Dubai Desert Triathlon held last March.

Scores of condolences were posted on Twitter, as members of the social networking site posted photos of Al Ghurair, as well as verses from the Quran. An Arabic hashtag topic was created for Al Ghurair, Maryam Hamad, his cousin, wrote, “With much grief and sorrow, my dear cousin, Rashid Al Ghurair, leaves us to a better place.” Others, such as Ahmad Khalifa, offered his sympathies to the family, as he wrote: “The happiness of the bridegroom’s family was not able to be complete. May his soul rest in peace,” and @mama_1900, who said: “May he become a groom in heaven,” while Ahmad Sultan Ali wrote: “#Rashid Al Ghurair. Yesterday I chose to disbelieve, today I came to terms with myself, its hard to see a friend leave without a goodbye.”
