Abu Dhabi: A magic show, painting, games, and gifts all brightened the day of sick children and their families who enjoyed a host of fun activities with the medical team at the Shaikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC).

The children, who are patients at SKMC, enjoyed celebrating Eid with a special ceremony organised by the hospital in co-operation with the Abu Dhabi Municipality (ADM).

The SKMC management, and ADM, said they realised how painful it was for parents and children to spend Eid confined to a bed and in treatment. They decided that the children in the hospital needed to be entertained, to celebrate Eid, and feel the joy of the special occasion, just like other children.

Shaikh Khalifa Medical City chief executive officer Dr Tej Maini said: "We know that staying in the hospital particularly during Eid holidays is not what children and families look for".

"We at SKMC believe that a bit of joy was brought to our children through this special celebration in spite of their health conditions," Dr Maini said.

Zayed Rasheed Al Daheri, a five-year-old Emirati child suffering from a cardiac problem said he enjoyed the Eid celebration in hospital which had included cartoons. "I loved Tom and Jerry," he said.
