Father's joy overshadowed by inability to pay huge hospital bill despite discount

Dubai: Still facing a hefty financial bill, the father of quintuplets, Hassan Munzer Barmada. said two off his four babies have fully recovered and are set to leave the hospital tomorrow.
The four babies who were born prematurely at the German Saudi Hospital on February 11, have been under constant observation for a month and a half.
“Akram and Agyad will hopefully be leaving tomorrow, they are completely fine now,” said Hassan who still bears the burden of a high hospital bill.
“Amjad and Alma still need another week,” he added.
The babies were kept in incubators and received intravenous nutrition during the first few weeks after their birth, setting the daily cost of health care at Dh30,000.
While the total bill was set to reach an estimated Dh1.4 million, the hospital has given the Syrian couple a 50 per cent discount.
“I’ll have to pay the hospital Dh250,000 for the two babies leaving the hospital tomorrow, and another Dh30,000 next week for the other two,” said Hassan.
Despite the hospital’s help, the couple still faces afinancial crisis as they are unable to make the hospital payments. “I am worried about the hospital discharging the babies tomorrow because I cannot come up with the payment,” said the worried father.
Concerned about being able to take his babies home, Hassan said he is unsure about the hospital’s discharge policy as he will not be able to complete the payments in the next few days, and cannot pile on any more hospital bills.
Still awaiting financial support, the couple is hoping to take all four of their babies home soon. “My wife is in pain — she just wanted to be with her kids during Mother’s Day,” said Hassan.
