Dubai: Another world record has been broken in Dubai, as a major business hub has recently pieced together the world’s largest puzzle.

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) confirmed on Sunday that it has successfully claimed a new Guinness World Records title for the largest jigsaw puzzle by surface area.

In celebration of the Year of Zayed,  the 12,000-piece puzzle features the image of Shaikh Zayed, the UAE’s founding father.

The puzzle is so big, spanning an area of 6,000 square metres, that it can be visible from a distance.

Where is it?

It can be found within the Uptown Dubai district of DMCC, master developer of Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and the government authority on commodities trade and enterprise.

Formerly called the Burj2020 District, Uptown Dubai is a real estate development consisting of more than 10 million square feet of commercial and residential space. The project was earlier envisioned to create 10,000 news jobs in Dubai.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DMCC executive chairman, lays down one of the pieces to the puzzle.

According to the Guinness World Records, the previous record for the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle was measured at 5,428.8 square metres. The previous title holder was put together at the former Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong in November 2002.

In terms of the number of pieces used, the largest jigsaw puzzle in the world was completed at the Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in September 2011. The puzzle showed a lotus flower with six petals and consisted of more than 550,000 pieces.
