Dubai: The Veterinary Services Section of the Public Health Services Department in Dubai Municipality has completed all preparations for Eid Al Adha.
The section is implementing an integrated plan at the ports and animal markets in preparation for Eid Al Adha, during which, large number of sheep and cattle consignments reach Dubai.
In coordination with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, all animals are subjected to quarantine procedures as well as physical inspections and laboratory tests, to ensure they are safe and free from infectious, communicable and common diseases.
During last year’s Eid Al Adha, Dubai markets had received 170,000 animals. This number is expected to increase by 60 per cent this year to 300,000.
Zuhoor Al Sabbagh, Director of Public Health Services Department, said Department is ready in terms of its qualified technical staff, which includes veterinarians, inspectors and lab technicians. This staff will be deputed at all animal supply outlets and abattoirs to check the health and safety of sacrificial animals and to take necessary measures for slaughtering the animals in hygienic way.
“The Department will provide these services and procedures through the smart systems of Dubai Municipality,” she said.
Al Sabbagh said that the Department has taken several initiatives to improve the services at the abattoirs.
“Recently, the Lisaili Abattoir was established in Mirgham area near the camel market to serve members of the community in the area. It has a capacity to slaughter 20 large animals and 120 small animals in an hour. It is also equipped to slaughter camels,” she said.
It is a green abattoir and is equipped with energy conservation techniques, and is environmentally-friendly and sustainable with the optimal utilisation of resources.
“All arrangements have been made at the slaughter hall for cows in Al Ghusais Abattoir to cope with Eid Al Adha rush. A temporary hall with six slaughter lines has been set up with a capacity to slaughter 300 animals per hour," said Al Sabbagh.
She pointed through Al Mawashi App the sacrificial animals can be easily chosen without the need for the customer to be physically present in the abattoir.
She said the maintenance work at abattoirs in Al Ghusais (with three dedicated slaughter halls and a quick abattoir), Al Quoz, Hatta, Al Khawaneej (temporary facility) and Al Lisaili have been completed.
She said these arrangement have been made to encourage people to get their animals slaughtered at the abattoirs instead of hiring illegal butchers at their homes for slaughtering animals. Awareness campaigns in this regard have been launched through print media, radio and TV and social media.
The abattoirs in Al Ghusais, Al Quoz, Al Lisaili and Hatta will work from 6:00am to 4:00pm from the first day of Eid until the third day of the Eid.
The temporary abattoir in Al Khawaneej and the quick abattoir in Al Ghusais will offer services after Eid Al Adha prayer until 4pm on the first day of Eid and from 6am to 4pm on the second and third days of Eid.
On the fourth day of Eid, the working hours at Al Ghusais, Al Quoz and Al Lisaili abattoirs will be from 6am to 4pm and from 7:30am to 4:00pm at Hatta.
