I once asked my friend: “Did you like The Christmas Carol?” I was expecting a comment on the book by Charles Dickens. Instead, my friend’s answer amazed me. She said: “Oh yes! I liked the snowy scenery, the three ghosts, and not to forget, Tiny Tim looked very cute.” With more film adaptations of famous books, the golden age of reading is slowly coming to a decline.

Today’s generation loves watching films, but there is no real entertainment other than reading books as they open doors to a new world of imagination and difference. Books also help us widen our mental horizon and give us a creative and an innovative approach to life.

Many love watching films based on popular books, which once used to and still continue to be favourites. While films give us temporary joy, books can give us eternal joy. The youth love watching films based on books as they can watch their favourite heroes on screen, admire visual effects and enjoy the music.

Some films are classics that portrayed a particular story with excellence. However, watching films does not deliver the clear message of the story. When we are lost in the artificial world of films, we often overlook the overall theme of the story. However, books give us a clear idea about the narrative. Reading also helps us to develop our vocabulary with different kinds of words, phrases and idioms.

Films may show us the setting of the story, but it is only through books that we get a complete understanding of different people and their lifestyle as well as their mindset and the place that they are in. We may not be able to watch films wherever we go, but books have held out their arms to us, waiting to be loved. So, don’t you think that books are better than movies?
