Abu Dhabi: Emirati women entrepreneurs will be honoured at the inaugural Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for Creative Women, which will take place alongside the third annual Women in Leadership (WIL) Forum.

"The award was created in October 2010 and we have already received over 60 applications, despite opening our registration process just two months ago," Dr Mouza Gobash, chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Shamsa Award for Creative Women, said at a press conference on Monday.

"What sets our award apart is that we are willing to receive applications for categories ranging from cooking to traditional handicrafts, to engineering, to medicine, and beyond," she added.

Since its founding nine months ago, Dr Mouza noted that the organisation had worked tirelessly to highlight its presence throughout the UAE through various community programmes as well as by participating in exhibitions and assorted events.

"Among the achievements we are most proud of [is the] setting up of the Shaikha Shamsa Bint Suhail Centre for Women in Al Ain, which has already helped 50 women," she said.

The registration process for the award is already underway. Once registration is closed, the applications will be presented to a committee of judges.

The award ceremony and forum, set for November 23-24, will be held under the patronage of Shaikha Shamsa Bint Suhail, wife of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
