Dubai: Artists and creative professionals are passing on some of their skills to children enrolled in the 10-day summer camp organised by Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children.

The centre started its annual summer camp under the theme ‘Perspective’ last Monday. The camp will run till July 28.

The camp has so far seen the participation of nearly 150 children, both boys and girls, aged between four and 16 years, with representation from different nationalities.

‘Perspective’ is organised under the supervision of artists and creative professionals from various fields, the centre said, and is offering a variety of activities such as health and nutrition workshops, discovering science, interactive games, environmental activities, library activities, entertainment activities, music, puppet theatre, cinema, handicraft, balloon shows, magic shows, cooking lessons, activities with the civil defence and with Hamdan Bin Mohammad College of Dental Medicine.

Bushra Al Rhoomi, director of programme management at Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, said the theme for the summer camp was picked in order to enable children to participate in all activities from all perspectives — cultural, social and artistic.

“We want to offer children an open canvas and let them be inspired by whatever that gives them the best opportunity to develop their talent and skills. We have added artistic activities at the centre of the camp schedule along with other activities related to nutrition and health of the child, classes for cooking with boys and girls, all in all a balanced learning and fun-filled environment for both mental and physical development.”

She said during the ten days of the camp, they will be organising awareness activities in cooperation with the Civil Defence department to guide children to respect safety rules and present best practices in an attractive manner.

“We will also be encouraging children to be involved in dental care best practice classes and interactive activities in close cooperation with Hamdan Bin Mohammad College of Dental Medicine. Further, we have a busy schedule of a variety of technical lessons in theatre, painting, pottery, music, photography, handicrafts, sports and scientific activities.”

Bushra highlighted the importance of investing in “vacation” activities that contribute to the building of children’s personality, cultural mindset and outlook, stimulating young minds with ideas, imagination and creativity.
