Dubai: Dubai Municipality recently inaugurated the Al Quoz Abattoir, behind Al Wahda Centre, the civic body said in a press release on Thursday.

The new abattoir, which is open from 6am to 11pm, has a capacity for processing 1,500 small and 50 large animals daily, said Ali Al Hammadi, head of Abattoir Section in the municipality.

“The new abattoir, which is equipped with the latest machinery and tools, is open throughout the week, except on Fridays. It has a common hall for small and large animals and the customers are allowed to see the slaughtering, skinning and cutting process directly and clearly from the moment of handing over the animal until the meat is delivered,” he said.

“All equipment at the abattoir are of high quality and capable of protecting the safety and health of consumers. The municipality has contracts with companies specialised in leather to take all animal skins and waste not suitable for human consumption and the waste is transported away from the abattoir to protect public health,” he explained.

Al Hammadi said that the abattoir has a men’s lounge, a women’s lounge, a refrigerator for cooling meat and ten sheds for storing livestock for traders before the slaughtering process, which are cleaned every day to protect animals from diseases before slaughtering and maintaining public health.

“The abattoir is also provided with an area for selling meat and it follows smart online ways to meet the needs of the public.”

Service charges are the same as those at Al Ghusais Abattoir, he added.
