Abu Dhabi: A total of 55 people were fined recently after their bicycles were found tethered to lampposts and signposts in the capital.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City said that inspectors had also issued warnings to another 40 bicycle owners.

The bike owners were given a three-day grace period to remove the bicycles, otherwise they would be slapped with a Dh3,000 fine. In addition, the bicycles would be impounded.

To recover the bicycles, the owners must then visit the impoundment yard, and pay both the fines as well as the impounding charges.

The municipality urged residents not to tether bicycles to street furniture and other public property, especially as this could pose safety hazards while also proving to be an eyesore.
