1,652 jaywalkers fined in Ajman in 16 days
Crossing roads from non-designated areas will attract a fine of Dh400, official warns
Ajman: As many as 1,652 jaywalkers were fined from June 27 to July 13 during an intensified police campaign carried out in Ajman to make roads safer and reduce accidents.
Lieutenant-Colonel Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, deputy director of Traffic and Patrol Department of Ajman Police, said the fines were issued during the inspection campaign targeting those who flout traffic rules.
He said that the aim of the campaign is to achieve the Ministry of Interior’s strategic goals ensuring maximum traffic safety.
The inspection campaign was intensified because of the high number of runover accidents. “Many pedestrians feel lazy to cross from designated areas, exposing themselves to danger.” he said.
Jaywalking is an offence and violators will attract a Dh400 fine, reminded Lt-Col Al Falasi.
All road users need to understand the risks of violating road safety rules, including crossing the road from a non-designated area.
“Pedestrians are advised to use the zebra crossing or take pedestrian bridges. Otherwise, they will face fines,” he said.
