MediaTek's Rami Osman, Director of Sales and Marketing - the Middle East and Africa, talks about the company's latest 5G chipset that is designed to keep up with the savvy Gen Z consumer, its collaboration with Oppo, and the user experience it brings to Oppo's latest Reno6 Z 5G smartphone.

Why is Gen Z a focus for both Oppo and MediaTek?

Gen Z is quickly becoming one of the world’s most powerful consumer segments, and although sometimes overlooked, as one of the youngest generations, Gen Z amounts to a third of the world’s population and controls an estimated spending power of $143 billion (Dh525 million) annually.

With 98 per cent of Gen Z owning a smartphone, receiving their first at the age of ten, on average, there is a clear correlation of the success of a brand in how it targets this demographic. By continuing to offer a diverse set of products we can meet what the new age consumer is looking for.

How does this generation differ from previous ones in terms of smartphones?

For millennials, smartphones were introduced later and prior to that they spent a considerable amount of time dealing with keypads for text messaging, low resolution cameras and the most popular game being snake, which many of us fondly remember.
