Two Made in UAE brands present an explosion of taste in a fast food revolution that’s leaving the UAE in bits

Homemade UAE burger brands, Huff & Puff and Graffiti spin the magic wand on the humble burger to present fast food icons that are filling up hungry bellies and satiating the soul

Do you speak Burgarian?

Huff & Puff Founder, Nada Alshamsi doesn’t mince words when discussing how the brand’s logo came about. “We Speak Burgarian is something we chose as a logo since one’s love of burgers introduces you to a whole new world — a world that also has its own language!”

So, what’s so special about the Huff, you ask? Alshamsi is emphatic that identity is everything. “Quality, freshness, and competitive value of offerings are a given. What is unique about Huff & Puff is our identity.” Stating how they are focused on customer feedback, Alshamsi says the team invests time and energy in doing things differently, from creative ways to stuff burgers to new recipes, packaging, and even naming their offerings. For instance, ever tried the Son of a Gun?

Shot of creativity

“We always strive to be creative, even while naming our menu items,” says Alshamsi. “And yes, it’s true one of our burgers is called Son of a Gun. A spicy chicken flavour with its own marination and special recipe, Son of a Gun was also inspired by a movie. I prefer names that have a nice ring to them and that our customers will like — ones that are fun and unique. I personally take inspiration from everything around me.” And the growth of the brand has been no less inspiring too.

True story

Having launched in Abu Dhabi in 2016, Huff & Puff todays operates stores in KSA and Oman as well. “We should be surprising our fans with a few more openings soon,” says Alshamsi. Now, that’s some juicy news to rival your favourite juicy Huff & Puff! But the scoop on juicy burgers does not end here.

Welcome to Graffiti World!

Across town, Graffiti burgers have left Abu Dhabi all abuzz with their tantalising offerings too. And the inspiration is, no surprise here, street art! Dia Salman, Founder, Graffiti, explains. “Burgers are the most popular fast-food item or meal in the world. We realised there was a great opportunity for burger places/ shops in Al Ain and the UAE. The word Graffiti was inspired by street art in the US. I wished to give street art a voice, character and taste, while on a mission to introduce the best food in the streets of the UAE.” And it worked.

23 and counting

Opening their first store on December 12, 2015, in Al Hili, Al Ain, Graffiti today operates 23 branches in the UAE, as well as stores in Baghdad, KSA, Oman and Kuwait. “Our goal is to ensure our customers have the ultimate burger experience,” says Salman.

Taste of home

“Frankly speaking, people always prefer the taste of homemade food over everything, and for sure quality, hygiene, the uniqueness of the item itself and the portion size are some of the factors they take into account. We wanted to bring our own unique tastes to our burgers.”

Now, these two burger brands maybe unique, but Huff & Puff and Graffiti also share something in common.

Thank you talabat!

“I truly think that our success would have been greatly compromised [during the pandemic] without our preferred delivery partner, talabat,” says Alshamsi of Huff & Puff. “They allowed us to continue operating during the initial lockdown phase. Online food delivery platforms are extremely important for our sector, connecting us with customers everyday.”

On his part, Salman of Graffiti says the idea to partner with talabat resulted from customer feedback. “When we decided to look for an online delivery partner, and did a survey, talabat was our customers’ choice. We now hope to continue growing together.”
