DUBAI: An Indian manager was left distraught when one of ten cargo boxes shipped from Dubai to India was misplaced and an item of cargo was damaged.

The missing box contained part of a brand new dining table.

On January 22, Keegan Vas bought dining and bar sets from Home Centre and had them delivered to Ruby Cargo at Rashidiya to be shipped by sea to India in 10 boxes. But the 35-year-old sales manager was shocked when only nine of the 10 boxes were delivered to his house. The missing box contained the main support for the dining table, without which it cannot stand. “I received the top and the bottom discs of the dining table… but since the box with centre support is missing, it’s just as good as a door-stop,” Vas told XPRESS. “When I informed Ruby Cargo about it, they stopped taking my phone calls.”

The consignment was the first he sent to his new apartment in Mangalore.

Deliveries were only made after repeated calls. When XPRESS contacted Ruby Cargo for a comment, manager Sandeep referred XPRESS to salesman Ashwin who promised to buy the missing part and deliver it to Vas’ house in Mangalore “soon”.

“It took a bit of time to trace the cargo with our agents in India,” he said. “Since they couldn’t find the missing package, we decided to replace it with a new one, even if it meant buying the whole set.”
