Look: India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai dazzles visitors with Navratri performances

Dubai: It’s Navratri time and the colourful dance performances by Indian expats in the UAE that went missing during the COVID-19 pandemic last year are back this time at the India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The state of Gujarat presented a splendid cultural programme on Thursday night to celebrate the first night of Navratri at the India Pavilion.

Women and girls dressed in multi-coloured cholis performed the ‘garba’ dance in circle.

Festivities continue over the nine nights of the Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Traditional folk dances are the highlights of the performances while captivating music programmes are also part of the festivities.

On Friday night, another group of dancers in colourful outfits performed the ‘dandiya’ dance using decorated sticks as props.

Gujarat is the focus state for the first two weeks of October at the India pavilion and the cultural programmes by Gujarati performers are a crowd-puller.

Kirtan Sahitya Sabha filled the night with divinity as they performed soulful Navratri kirtans (devotional songs) on Friday. The magnificent performance captivated the audience.
