Helicopters in the sky 'mean death is close'

Israeli troops backed by tanks and helicopter gunships killed 11 Palestinians and wounded 27 during overnight raids on militant strongholds in the Gaza Strip, medics and witnesses said yesterday.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas met leaders of the Islamic militant Hamas group yesterday for the first time since he took office three weeks ago, sources close to the talks said.
