Turkey and Philippines trend on social media. #Duterte and #Changeiscoming were trending with the Filipino community around the world expressing their excitement as the Philippines President Rodrigo Roa Duterte took his oath of office on Thursday. “The ride will be rough, but join me just the same,” he said and that’s what happened with people looking forward to the change he would bring in their country. On the other hand, the triple suicide bombing at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport, which reportedly killed at least 41 people, was still a topic of discussion on social media a day after the attack. Early signs suggest that Daesh was behind bombings. Social media users condemned the attacks and expressed their strong views against the terrorist group.

PK Tam: “Daesh are out for power, wearing an Islamic cloak to fool people to support them.”

David Lee: “Why aren’t people upset about these repeat attacks on Turkey? Because over 40 Muslims died? Because over 200 Muslims were injured? Are they not people? Daesh don’t care who you are. And they’ve killed many more actual Muslims than anyone else. So, where is the outrage?”

Muhammad Ferdaus Chia: “Still think Daesh is Muslim? Waging war in Ramadan completely goes against the Islamic teachings. It totally contradicts the essence of Ramadan, where Muslims fast to place themselves in a position to feel for the poor and control our nufs (desires), give zakat (charity) to help, give and share with others and spending more time in prayer and worship.”
