Social media torn over Ronaldo’s behaviour. A journalist from Correio da Manha TV (CMTV) tried to conduct a live interview with Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugal forward and captain, on Wednesday. All he wanted to ask was if the footballer was ready for his Euro 2016 match against Hungary later in the day. But, without responding, Ronaldo snatched the journalist’s microphone and threw it into the lake. #Ronaldo immediately started trending on social media, with people debating whether what he did was right or wrong. We take a look at some of those views.

Ronaldo Microphone – Facebook users discuss the incident.

Sandra Mungaray: “You know, you really start to question journalistic integrity when they don’t even bother to research why Ronaldo did this. The guy with the microphone is from a tabloid newspaper from Portugal that is always harassing him, his family, and his son. Ronaldo has a lawsuit going against them for libel and doesn’t answer questions from them during press events. He’s not being a brat- he’s standing up for himself.”

Nnamdi Victor Emenike: “As much as I am a die-hard fan of Christiano Ronaldo, I have strong resentment for his unruly behaviour towards the press in France when he flung the microphone into a nearby stream. A super star of his class should learn how to manage anger.”

Angela Iroh: “He should control his temper in public no matter who he is or who he thinks he is, because one day, he will be scouting for these reporters at the time of his retirement.”
