According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), cheetahs are endangered throughout their range due to loss of habitat, reduced prey and direct persecution. They can be seen in Serengeti National Park, Masai Mara National Reserve, Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia etc. The cheetah is listed as ‘vulnerable’ in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Only 7,000 to 10,000 of these big cats remain, and those are under pressure as the wide-open grasslands they like are disappearing at the hands of human settlers.
