It took a horrible image of a child covered in blood and dirt after an airstrike to get people to talk about Syria again. On 23 April 2016, the United Nations and Arab League Envoy to Syria put out an estimate that around 400,000 people have died in the last five years of conflict. More than 11 million others have been forced from their homes. Thousands of those killed and affected are children.

Abby Padayhag: “Can’t help myself but to cry seeing those children in the video, a victim of bombing.”

Haroon Buksh: “These are children bombed every day. It’s not an exceptional case. This is a daily fact of Russian and Syrian government airstrikes. They take turns bombing civilians in Aleppo before the whole world. This child is a representative of millions of children in Syria and its cities.”

Malak Shehzad Hamza: “I really hope that a similar war like the one is going on in Syria Will not start in Turkey! The kind of situations that happen there now are bad signals!”

Kamran Nasir: “His name is Omran. The image of him, bloodied and covered with dust. Sitting silently in an ambulance awaiting help, is another stark reminder of the toll of the war in #Syria. I feel your pain baby. Allah please help the #Syrian Muslims.”

Kristine Dolly Fronteras: “We are still so lucky for not having to experience what this boy has experienced. This boy doesn’t have the time to cry anymore because of too much pain. Don’t worry Omran this world is just temporary. #PrayForSyria.”
