On Tuesday Indian users of Twitter criticised Prime Minster Narendra Modi’s for his remarks, in China and South Korea, about Indians being ashamed of being born in the country before his government came to power. India newsaper, The Hindu, quoted Modi’s remark at a meeting with the Indian community in China on Saturday, saying: “...expatriates no longer feel ashamed of being Indians”. The article further said: “...Modi said his one year in office had given Indians abroad a new pride in the country.”

#ModiInsultsIndia - The hashtag started trending worldwide on Tuesday morning, with Indians reacting to say that they have never been ashamed of their country.

However, some Twitter users supported Modi, saying that his words had meen misinterpreted and that Congress supporters using this to create unecessary drama.
