According to a recent study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, nearly four per cent of all deaths — approximately 433,000 per year — are because people worldwide spend more than three hours a day just sitting down.

We asked Gulf News readers, how long they sit at a stretch? A majority 23 per cent sit for two to three hours, followed by 22 per cent of respondents who sit at a stretch, for more than 4 hours.

Various studies over the last decade have demonstrated how the ‘chair effect’ or excessive amount of time we spend sitting down may increase the risk of death, regardless of whether or not we exercise.

Do you sit continuously for more than three hours? Is it because of the nature of your work? Tell us at readers@gulfnews.com
