Not worthy

Gulf News shouldn’t have provided three columns of news space with this headline (‘Kerala actor’s gaffe hurts BJP poll campaign’, Gulf News, June 25). There is minimal news value in this story and the newspaper should have kept this space for some other news item. It almost seems like it was done just to fill the paper and Gulf News should not do this. We have seen this serial actress’ immature comments just a few days earlier and in the election campaign, so this news report doesn’t have any impact. For the past 25 years, I have been in Dubai and Gulf News is a part of my life. I humbly request the newspaper to bring forward more value-based, informative news pieces from India.

From Mr Eappen Elias

Dubai

It is our role to report the news and that includes events, issues, which are both positive and negative. We could not ignore this news, especially as it has a political impact. Not reporting something will not change what is happening and make things go away. In fact, strong reader reaction might force people to evaluate their actions. Gulf News does not have the luxury of space to fill it with pointless content. Each and every article is used based on weightage, relevance and reader value. This particular news item was widely read.
