Video games affect our sense of awareness

We’re in an age where people of Dubai, and even around the world, are starting to learn how to walk with Pokemon GO (‘Pokemon mania: Fans hit by nostalgia walk into trouble’, Gulf News, July 13). The human race is denigrating from a lack of awareness and consciousness. Walking is a beautiful act of the body and one needs to be mindful of the same, especially on roads, where we can enjoy every step our feet take. Besides the consequences of playing Pokemon GO on smartphones, the game has an effect on our consciousness. We are moving towards not being in the present. I feel that the authorities should urge people to be more aware when they are on the road. Let the people of the UAE learn to walk mindfully.

Plenty of hiding spots

I won’t give my suggestions on where to hide valuables when I’m on vacation, for safety reasons, but I will say that we shouldn’t leave these things in obvious places, such as in a jewellery boxes on top of a dresser (‘Police tips: How to make your home burglar-proof’, Gulf News, July 14). You can find many good hiding places around the house.

Don’t break the rules

If you actually pay attention, you will notice that the authorities only give fines if you break the rules (‘Not fine: Lesser-known violations costing residents’, Gulf News, July 13). If you don’t break the rules, you have nothing to worry about! I have a licence and I got a fine for parking, but I don’t blame anyone for it because I parked in an area where it was not allowed. So, who are we to be above the law?

Fine littering

It’s important that fines go to all those who do not follow the rules. I think we need to have fines for drivers who throw their cigarettes out their car windows while they are driving, and also those who throw garbage in parking areas. Just because you think someone will be around to pick it up soon, doesn’t mean you should do it!

Working on it

I think I will be the first to get a fine! I do everything while driving, but I will try to be disciplined from now on.

Take care of Pakistan

The army is Pakistan’s final hope because they take care of its people (‘Posters begging for military coup in Pakistan’, Gulf News, July 13). They fight against terrorists in the country and they should remove the corrupt government.

Manmade drama

This is drama, created by Pakistan’s army to divert attention from the corrupt acts of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, which were revealed by the Panama Papers leak. I think the army is behind Sharif’s government, and the people of Pakistan will now discuss this unknown mystery for two years while Sharif and the army enjoy the remaining tenure safely. These posters are located in army-covered areas of Pakistan and no one can do this without the army’s support.

Conflicting opinions

Some will say Pakistan needs more democracy to be more democratic. In order for the differences between the nation-states’ economies to narrow, you have to have political integration. Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa believes that Pakistan isn’t ready to surrender national sovereignty or to redistribute wealth across South Asia.

The Pakistani Parliament is making decisions and controlling elements because there is still a fight between the extremists and the nationalistic ideals, in the minds of the people and within the institutions.

Be patient, democracy takes time

We must let democracy grow in Pakistan, and in order to reach true democracy, we must have governments complete their terms. We have almost successfully completed two terms and we have to complete another one for our nation to grow in legitimacy. Be patient, we are almost there. Start sensibly preparing for 2018!

Continue the democratic process

Pakistan is coming back on the right track, but some of the haters don’t want to see Pakistan develop so they put up such posters. I believe that Nawaz Sharif needs to finish his term and General Raheel Sharif, we are with him. We must move forward with democracy.

Give way to fair elections

People of Pakistan have always called the army generals dictators in the end. That’s why Raheel Sharif will not take over because, in the end, they will attack him. He will just give way to fair elections this time.

Prefers army

Who we trust

Our army is our pride. Our politicians are stealing money and buying properties in and around the world. All the while, Pakistan becomes more poor and more debt laden.

Let’s thank the employees

Thanks to the pilots, cabin crew and check-in staff for all their hard work (‘World’s best airlines for 2016 revealed’, Gulf News, July 13). These airlines were chosen by the public and those employees are the ones that the passengers get in touch with! I hope they are recognised by their organisations! They deserve it. Without them, there would be no airline, so they ensure the jobs for so many others.

What makes a winner

One of these airlines got us home from Geneva to Dubai with 44 students and teachers with 30 different passports when we missed our flight with another airline. There was no hassle and the staff were helpful. They did it all in under two hours! That’s what makes a good airline.

Selfish and calculated mother

There can be nothing more tragic for a child than to have his father killed on the directives of his own mother just so that she could live with someone else (‘Teenager seeks death penalty for mother in India’, Gulf News, July 12). It is sad that such people are part of the society who could stoop to such low levels of having someone assassinated for their own benefit. This woman is a disgrace and her son is absolutely right in getting her punished for her crime. She is selfish because she didn’t spare a thought about the future of her son and she only cared about her own happiness. She should be ashamed of her deeds and severely punished.

Problems of the youth

I want to highlight the abstract problems that the youth of this generation feel. We crave independence. We want to be free, we want to be different, we want to be able to express ourselves, but at the same time we want to fit in. At this enigmatic age, we are only beginning to open our eyes and the world we see is so much different than what we thought it would be. Our vision is blurry, but we have never seen clarity, so we assume that what we see now is reality. The world is much bigger and dynamic to fully see.

The biggest problem that we face is trying to find ourselves in this ever-growing labyrinth amidst the mirages that people have created of us. We want to live up to their expectations while simultaneously being rebellious. Being a youth is so ambiguous. We are never settled and we are forever changing and looking for who we are. We want to suffice in our society and in our world, but we have to realise that we’ll never be enough for everybody, but we have to be enough for ourselves.
